Types of Implant Dentures
- Implant-Retained, Gum-Supported
- Bar-Retained, Implant-Supported
- Permanently Fixed, Implant-Supported
In this option, the overdenture rests on the gums and is held in place by implants placed in the upper and/or lower jaw. The removable overdenture attaches to the implants using retentive components built into the denture. This treatment is currently considered the minimum standard of care for patients who are fully edentulous (missing all teeth).
With this treatment, implants placed in the jaw are connected by a metal bar. The removable overdenture attaches to this bar using retention mechanisms built into the denture. This design provides enhanced stability compared to gum-supported options.
This solution involves a one-piece framework where the overdenture and bar are securely screwed into implants placed in the upper and/or lower jaw. Unlike removable dentures, this prosthesis can only be removed by a dental clinician. It closely mimics natural teeth, as it lacks bulky flanges and does not rest on the gums.
